Our History

        

 The Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta (FIJI or Phi Gam) was established at Jefferson College in 1848 as a Greek letter, secret, social fraternity to foster core values of Friendship, Knowledge, Service, Morality, and Exellence. The Omicron Chi Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta at Oklahoma City was founded in the spring of 2015. We have a strong dedication to our values and have had many achievements on campus.

OUR MISSION: "Phi Gamma Delta is dedicated to developing men of character within the academic setting, with the aim that they will become fully contributing members of society. In pursuit of this mission, the Fraternity promotes five core values."Our five core values:

 

FRIENDSHIP brings us together and is the basis of our brotherhood. It provides us with the platform to develop individually and collectively.

 

KNOWLEDGE is the primary reason our members attend college and the key to fuller, richer life. We understand that our common pursuit of knowledge is the strongest bond, and hence every brother's priority.

 

SERVICE is the recognition of our obligation to give back to the campus and community that foster our growth. Complementing academics, service enables us to connect to the community to which we belong, and in doing so, enrich our college experience.

 

MORALITY is our commitment to do what is right in all our relationships. It is something all brothers strive to attain. It is our guiding light in our daily actions and encounters.

 

EXCELLENCE is the achievement of the full potential of the chapter and the individual members. As our standard, we aspire to perform beyond the expectations of others, to be men of the highest potential and quality.

 

What about hazing?
(as found in the Bylaws of the Fraternity)
No chapter shall allow any of its pledges, members, or other persons to participate in any pre-initiation or hazing ceremony or practice which involves physical exhaustion or abuse, or would in any way interfere with a person's mental or physical ability to perform college work efficiently or tend to reflect unfavorably upon the Fraternity in the eyes of the public, or is of a dangerous, rude, or vulgar nature, whether taking place within or without the chapter house.

How will the Fraternity affect my grades?

One of the biggest adjustments a new collegiate has to make is getting used to the time management and personal accountability required to be successful academically. Academics are emphasized from day one at Phi Gamma Delta. Study hours, tutoring and brother mentoring are all encouraged activities in the new member education program. A commitment to scholastic excellence carries on well beyond initiation. Our first priority as a chapter is scholarship.

 

 

How will the Fraternity help after graduation?

There are over 100,000 graduate brothers. While membership in the Fraternity cannot guarantee a member a job after graduation, a network of such magnitude will definitely open some doors along the way. Some notable prominent Phi Gams include Calvin Coolidge (President of the United States 1923-29), Phillip Knight (Founder, owner and president of Nike), Matthew Fox (actor, "Lost") among others. On top of the alumni network, members of Phi Gamma Delta also receive valuable life lessons and leadership training through their experiences within the Fraternity. There are numerous leadership roles available in the chapter as well as activities including, community service projects, philanthropies and social events that will help you develop the necessary leadership and social skills to be successful after graduation.

How much does it all cost?
Phi Gamma Delta charge membership dues in order to provide the most well rounded college experience possible for their members. Dues vary by chapter, however payment plans are offered by most chapters and encouraged by Phi Gamma Delta so that not all the money is required up front.

 

Phi Gamma Delat Also offers a AAA scholarship to pledge members. It pays for the student's first semester dues if the student recieves a 3.2 Grade point Average.

 

 

Additional Information about Phi Gamma Delta

·                     Values & Ethics: We were founded 162 years ago as an organization composed of men who are committed to the values of Friendship, Knowledge, Service, Morality, and Excellence. Today, those values are just as important, if not more so. Everything about our organization is rooted in these principles.

·                     Graduate Involvement: There are numerous graduates who volunteer to assist a Delta Colony. A specific group of them, known as the Board of Colony Advisors, will meet with the undergraduates on a regular basis to offer assistance and guide the Colony in the right direction.

·                     Parental Involvement: We encourage the involvement of parents. The concept of family is extremely important to our Fraternity, especially since Phi Gamma Delta is a man’s “home away from home” during his collegiate years.

·                     Risk Management: Phi Gamma Delta is adamant about following the law when it comes to the consumption and/or distribution of alcoholic beverages. 21 is the law!  Alcohol was not a founding principle of the Fraternity and will not be a major aspect of Phi Gamma Delta.

·                     Zero Tolerance: Phi Gamma Delta does not permit illegal drug use in any way, shape, or form. Drugs and Fiji don’t mix; any man who is discovered to have involvement with drugs will be immediately expelled.

·                     International Headquarters Support: All Colonies receive special attention from the International Headquarters staff in Lexington, Kentucky. Brothers from Headquarters will visit the Colonies regularly and communicate weekly with Colony leadership.
